Bruce Rossmeyer, nearly 1 year later

As we begin to approach the two month countdown until the 2010 Sturgis motorcycle rally it is with great sadness that I reflect on the death of Bruce Rossmeyer.

Around this time last year I was making final preparations for the 2009 rally; arranging press passes, confirming housing (last year and this year (2010) we have and will rent a house), and just beginning to “get all of my ducks in a row.”  The 4th of July came, went and all seemed well going into the rally…  That was until July 30th, 2009; the day that Bruce Rossmeyer died in a tragic motorcycling accident.

As a realist I understand that  there are tragedy’s at the Sturgis rally, its just a result of so many people in one place at one time, the odds are against us!

I never met Mr. Rossmeyer in person.  I did however see a lot of him on billboards around Central Florida, and once or twice saw him on TV sitting court-side during an Orlando Magic game.  He seemed like a very down to earth guy and I can say that I do not recall ever hearing anything bad spoken of him.  All in all I believe that he was a generally nice guy and from what I hear one hell of a biker.

So as Sturgis 2010 approaches I ask all bikers out there, please take an extra second before riding out and double/triple safety check your bike; ride in groups if possible, and be extra aware of your surroundings.  This year in Sturgis lets blow the odds out of the water and not have a single accident!
