Sturgis 2010…. feeling it yet???

As we approach the official start date of the 70th anniversary of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally I can feel the rumble of thousands of V-Twin motorcycles in my bones. The stage has been set for a great trip, we will be driving two trucks, two trailers and hauling 13 motorcycles up this year.

Midland Radio has hooked us up with two CB radios to keep in touch while on the road and two XTC-150VP2 “Adventure Action Cameras,” to film our rides and events. Be sure to check our YouTube site to see the videos of us in action at the Sturgis Rally 2010!

This weekend Ken and his fellow “Nam Knights,” are riding to Washington D. C. for Memorial Day.

Lets all remember why its a national holiday this Monday when we are enjoying the long weekend with friends and family. Take a minute with your children and explain the day to them, its something that they’ll be glad to know as they get older…

Bruce Rossmeyer, nearly 1 year later

As we begin to approach the two month countdown until the 2010 Sturgis motorcycle rally it is with great sadness that I reflect on the death of Bruce Rossmeyer.

Around this time last year I was making final preparations for the 2009 rally; arranging press passes, confirming housing (last year and this year (2010) we have and will rent a house), and just beginning to “get all of my ducks in a row.” The 4th of July came, went and all seemed well going into the rally… That was until July 30th, 2009; the day that Bruce Rossmeyer died in a tragic motorcycling accident.

As a realist I understand that there are tragedy’s at the Sturgis rally, its just a result of so many people in one place at one time, the odds are against us!

I never met Mr. Rossmeyer in person. I did however see a lot of him on billboards around Central Florida, and once or twice saw him on TV sitting court-side during an Orlando Magic game. He seemed like a very down to earth guy and I can say that I do not recall ever hearing anything bad spoken of him. All in all I believe that he was a generally nice guy and from what I hear one hell of a biker.

So as Sturgis 2010 approaches I ask all bikers out there, please take an extra second before riding out and double/triple safety check your bike; ride in groups if possible, and be extra aware of your surroundings. This year in Sturgis lets blow the odds out of the water and not have a single accident!

There are few words in the English language that can be used to accurately depict what the Sturgis motorcycle rally truly represents. For one week in the summer the town of Sturgis, South Dakota is transformed into an adult playground where anyone can let loose and all involved are bonded together by the sounds of V-twin engines idling on Main Street . . .

Hell, who am I kidding, I can sit here and try to type a beautiful depiction of the rally with tons of adjectives OR I can just post a simple picture that is worth more than 1,000 words. . . .
